Cikarang, West Java: Astra, through its Astra Bina Ilmu Foundation (YABI), inaugurated the new ASTRAtech campus, a vocational higher education institution, in Delta Silicon, Cikarang, West Java today (5/22). The new ASTRAtech campus is a testament to Astra’s commitment to education in Indonesia.

The inauguration of the ASTRAtech campus was attended by Prof. Warsito, the Deputy for Coordination of Education Quality Improvement and Religious Moderation at the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia, and Astra President Director Djony Bunarto Tjondro, along with the Board of Directors of Astra and executives of the Astra Group.

“Vocational education plays a pivotal role in nurturing exceptional human resources prepared to enter the workforce. The new ASTRAtech campus is expected to continuously improve and emerge as a polytechnic institution that produces not only competent, skilled, and exceptional professionals aligned with industry demands and the labor market but also individuals with a strong work ethic, passion, and aspirations to drive Indonesia’s progress,” said Astra President Director Djony Bunarto Tjondro.

ASTRAtech Campus Innovation
ASTRAtech, formerly known as the Federal Technical Academy since its establishment in 1995 and later changed its name to Astra Manufacturing Polytechnic in 2001, has officially become Astra Polytechnic, under the brand name ASTRAtech, effective April 2021.

ASTRAtech offers eight programs: six Diploma III (D3) programs and two Diploma IV (D4) programs. These study programs are developed to cater to the technological landscape of the industries. ASTRAtech implements the Astra Dual System vocational training supported by the Astra Group.

The ASTRAtech campus sits on a 5-hectare land with a total building area of 22,451 m2. The three-story campus is designed to accommodate 2,000 students and is equipped with workshop areas, laboratories, and classrooms. There is also an eight-story dormitory spanning 13,518 m2, complemented with facilities such as badminton and basketball courts. The aim is to create a comfortable and conducive environment where every ASTRAtech student can thrive.

ASTRAtech is the first institution in Asia to implement the German Bachelor Professional (Meister) certification program in the Automotive field. This program follows the Meister certification standards in Germany, which is a human resource development scheme that is essential to Germany’s industrial competitiveness. To date, 33 students have graduated with a German Bachelor Professional degree in the Automotive field from ASTRAtech.

With faculty comprised of instructors holding Meister certification and industry professionals from the Astra Group, ASTRAtech seeks to enhance the quality of graduates.

Presently, ASTRAtech has produced 4,057 graduates with an Associate degree, of which 943 students were beneficiaries of Astra (YABI) scholarships. Over the past five years, approximately 50% of ASTRAtech graduates have found employment with the Astra Group, while the remaining have joined other companies outside the Astra Group.

Astra also partners with PT Energia Prima Nusantara to install a 0.5 MWP solar power generator on the roof of the new ASTRAtech campus building.

To realize the vision of Society 5.0, ASTRAtech collaborates with students, faculty members, and industry stakeholders to create outstanding innovations. One example is WINTEQ, a collaboration with an Astra Group company, PT Astra Otoparts Tbk, to develop the Multifunctional Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machine ‘INNOSTRA’. Another example is collaborations with other industries to develop a Heavy Loaded Trackless Automated Guided Vehicle (“AGV”) with a capacity of up to 400 kg and Serviced/Customized Drones connected to 5G Mobile Networks.

Astra’s dedication to fostering the advancement of the vocational industry for today and the future of Indonesia is in line with Astra’s mission to prosper with the nation and support Indonesia’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
