29 October 2022

JAKARTA: The statue of the founder of Astra, William Soeryadjaya, welcomes young generations to the Catur Dharma Hall, Menara Astra, Jakarta. They are here to attend the 13th Semangat Astra Terpadu Untuk (SATU) Indonesia Awards 2022 awards ceremony, which took place on the anniversary of the Youth Pledge (10/28).

Astra President Director Djony Bunarto Tjondro and Astra Directors were also present at the ceremony.

“We hope that SATU Indonesia Awards can continue to ignite Indonesian youth’s spirit of moving and growing together to make more positive impacts on their communities. We believe that the young generations play an important role in accelerating Indonesia’s development,” said Astra President Director Djony Bunarto Tjondro in his remarks.

This year’s awards recipients at the national level are six inspirational figures who have made positive contributions to the nation and society in the five fields of health, education, environment, entrepreneurship, technology and group category representing the five fields.

They were chosen from a total of 13,459 people registered for the 13th SATU Indonesia Awards 2022 through several selection stages. The six winners are:

– Health Category

Justitia Avila Veda from West Java with the program “Friends of Victims of Sexual Violence”. Around June 2020, Veda offered to help consult on sexual violence cases through a tweet on her Twitter account. She and her colleagues then began to provide online consultations. They initiated the Lawyers’ Collective for Gender Justice (Kolektif Advokat untuk Keadilan Gender/KAKG). In addition to online consultations, KAKG also accompanies clients during trials anywhere in Indonesia. To date, Veda and her team have received more than 150 complaints, of which 80% are cases of technology-related violence. Their consulting services can be accessed through KAKG’s Instagram and TikTok accounts.

– Education Category

Bhrisco Jordy Dudi Padatu from West Papua with the program “A Guiding Light from Mansinam Island”. Through the Papua Future Project he founded in 2022, every week, children of Mansinam Island, West Papua, can learn various things such as reading, writing, arithmetic, digital technology and the impact of climate change in a fun way. Bhrisco was concerned by the gap in knowledge between city and remote children in West Papua. Mansinam Island only has one elementary school (SD). And because most of the teachers live in Manokwari, school usually starts at 9 a.m. and ends at 12 noon every day. Bhrisco hopes his program can reach more Papuan children.

– Environment Category

David Hidayat from West Sumatra with the program “Protector of Marine Life from Pesisir Selatan.” The damage to the coastal area in Sungai Pinang Village, Pesisir Selatan Regency, West Sumatra, costs the community a lot of local natural potential. Inspired to restore the nature of the area, David initiated ANDESPIN Dee West Sumatra. ANDESPIN is an acronym for Anak Desa Sungai Pinang or Children of Sungai Pinang Village. The program aims to encourage locals to replant coral reefs and mangroves, breed sea turtles and cultivate seaweed. Active since 2014, the total area conserved has reached 70% of the target. The local community began to benefit from this program. For example, it is now possible to catch mud crabs again in the area. Since 2020, David has succeeded in developing his batik and mangrove coffee business.

– Entrepreneurship Category

Alfira Oktaviani from Bengkulu & Yogyakarta with the program “Preserving Bengkulu Lantung Fabric”. Alfira is a “mompreneur” or mother-entrepreneur. Her love for fashion and art prompted her to learn ecoprint, which came to Indonesia in 2016. In 2018, she founded Semilir Ecoprint to introduce eco-friendly fashion that translates the shape and color of real leaves on fabric using direct contact. Through her products, Alfira explores the richness of Indonesian flora as a means to preserve nature and culture. With the help of several other women, she makes various kinds of accessories and crafts, such as bags, wallets and scarves. Her signature products are crafts made with Bengkulu’s lantung (Artocarpus altilis) bark sheets. Alfira wants to introduce the charm of lantung bark to the world.

– Technology Category

Paundra Noorbaskoro from East Java with the program “Technology-Based Eco-Friendly Shrimp Cultivator.” In 2018, Paundra and his three friends started a vaname shrimp farming business in Pacitan Regency, East Java, by utilizing unproductive land plots. After several failed attempts in the first few years, he took the initiative to use the Internet of Things (IoT) to control pond conditions and water quality in 2020. In early 2022, Paundra started to record and process pond data using an application he developed himself. He also built a smart farm village system equipped with a wastewater treatment plant (IPAL) in Pacitan and Trenggalek Regencies to control waste. Thanks to the data-based pond, his business is growing. Paundra currently operates 20 vaname shrimp culture ponds with a total area of 10,000 m2.

– Group Category

Alvinia Christiany from Jakarta Special Capital Region with the “Friends of Autism” (“Teman Autis”) program.
