2021 Astra Green Energy Summit Supports Reduction of Greenhouse Gas Emissions

JAKARTA: Commemorating World Energy Day 2021, Astra held the 2021 Astra Green Energy Summit with the theme “Real Actions to Create a Sustainable Environment through Energy Optimization” today (5/11). It is a form of Astra’s support for energy conservation and efficiency programs in the Astra Group companies.

Also attending the event were Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) of the Republic of Indonesia, Arifin Tasrif, Coordinator for the Preparation of the New Energy and Renewable Energy Program of the ESDM Ministry, Tony Susandy, S.T., MBA, and Chief of Corporate Affairs Astra, Riza Deliansyah.

In his remarks, Minister Arifin Tasrif emphasized the importance of the private sector’s role in encouraging energy transition to cleaner energy in Indonesia.

“As a company whose businesses are on the supply and utilization side of energy, Astra has an important role in the synergy to support the Indonesian government’s programs and policies in developing green energy by being directly involved in developing NRE and conserving energy and applying energy efficiency technology in the Company, ” said the minister.

Chief of Corporate Affairs Astra, Riza Deliansyah, added that Astra Group’s contribution through its Astra Green Energy (AGEn) program is expected to reduce the impact of climate change.

“The program resulted in 495,000 tonnes of CO2 equivalent GHG emissions reduction, 5,622 terajoules of energy saving, and a total of Rp1.5 trillion operating costs saving from 2015 to 2021. We hope that all energy management efforts through the AGEn program could aid climate change mitigation in Indonesia,” said Riza in his virtual speech.

Since 2015, Astra has continuously implemented energy-saving programs and acceleration of new and renewable energy (NRE) sources utilization as well as application of energy-saving technologies through the AGEn program. Astra incorporates Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 13, climate action, as a reference for this program.

Astra Group companies implemented the program by carrying out climate change mitigation activities. One of the focuses of the activities is contributing to greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction to support the achievement of the energy roadmap under the National Energy General Plan and GHG emissions reduction under the Nationally Determined Contribution Indonesia.

49 Astra Group Companies Implement Energy Saving Programs and NRE Utilization

Through the AGEn program, carried out in 49 companies and more than 101 Astra’s facilities, Astra continues to implement energy-saving programs and utilization of NRE sources that contribute to reducing GHG emissions. In 2020, Astra fulfilled its commitment to reduce energy consumption and GHG emissions by 2.5% compared to the previous year.

Various efforts to conserve energy and the best efficiency efforts within the Astra Group were discussed in the AGEn Talk session. The session brought the Coordinator for the Preparation of the New Energy and Renewable Energy Program of the Ministry of ESDM, Tony Susandy, S.T., MBA, and Astra Group executives competent in their fields as speakers. The 2021 Astra Green Energy Summit was concluded with appreciation to Astra Group’s energy experts.

Through the event, Astra wished to emphasize the importance of energy management as one of the main strategies in achieving the SDGs in the environmental sector.

Astra’s contribution in reducing the impact of climate change is in line with the SDGs and Astra’s mission to Prosper with the Nation.
