Strengthening the Economy, Desa Sejahtera Astra Wajak Lor and North Nias

TULUNGAGUNG: Astra dispatched the export of ornamental fish, the flagship product of Desa Sejahtera Astra (DSA) Wajak Lor, Boyolangu, Tulungagung, worth Rp1.8 billion to Australia, Britain and Japan at the Goldfish Export Ceremony, Sunday (3/12), in Tulungagung, East Java. This export will be followed by regular shipments of around 360-480 thousand fish every three months.

“We strive to continuously encourage DSA to be more advanced and competitive through various forms of support, such as mentorships, training, equipment assistance, facilities, access to capital and marketing. For the last five years, Astra has been assisting DSAs with a focus on developing flagship products,” said Astra Chief of Corporate Affairs Riza Deliansyah.

Through the training and mentoring activities in DSA Wajak Lor, Astra has contributed to the creation of 30 new jobs and a 37% increase in local average income. It has also helped realize the capacity to export 1.9 million ornamental fish per year.

The Minister of Village, Development of Disadvantaged Regions and Transmigration of the Republic of Indonesia Abdul Halim Iskandar, Tulungagung Regent Maryoto Birowo and Astra Head of CSR & Social Engagement Triyanto officiated the export.

Previously on Wednesday (3/8), Astra dispatched the export of DSA Nias Utara’s flagship products – edible white copra and Nias’s Genjah coconut worth Rp6.7 billion to China, at Gunung Sitoli Port, Nias, North Sumatra.

The export was officiated by Edy Rahmayadi (North Sumatra Governor), Herlina Sulistyorini (Director-General of Economic Development & Village Investment of the Ministry of Village, Development of Disadvantaged Regions and Transmigration of the Republic of Indonesia), Chairul Saleh (Deputy Assistant for Community Economic Empowerment and Entrepreneurship of the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia), Amizaro Waruwu (North Nias Regent) and Riza Deliansyah (Astra Chief of Corporate Affairs).

The DSA program in North Nias has successfully created 250 new jobs, increased local average income by 60% and exported coconuts sourced from three villages with a capacity of 8 million coconuts per year.

Astra has developed 1,060 DSAs across Indonesia to date, of which 317 DSAs contributed to Rp87.8 billion in export value. Through the DSA program, Astra hopes DSA flagship products can become the pride of Indonesia and boost national export value, as well as support national economic recovery and growth.
